In contrast to Level 2 charging stations, Level 3 charging stations offer significantly faster charging times. Typically, a Level 3 charger can recharge an electric vehicle in as little as 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the vehicle’s charging requirements and the power output of the charger, providing a highly convenient fast-charging option. Due to the necessity for a much higher electrical power output than Level 2 chargers, Level 3 chargers are better suited for commercial businesses, such as gas stations, and are not typically found in residential homes or offices.
The fastest charging stations currently available are Level 3 stations, with the capability to deliver power ranging from 30 kW to 360 kW. At the high end, this allows for the addition of 300 miles of range, while at 30 kW, charging a passenger vehicle can increase its range by approximately 125 miles.
